St. Kitts, a place like no other.
Your typical Carribean trip would most likely be Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas…etc. Not saying that those tropical islands aren’t gorgeous, but St. Kitts is another world. Three years ago, I never knew of the island. It was only because of my best friend Sam who attended Veterinarian School at Ross University, where I discovered the name. I had the opportunity to visit her twice when she had a break from school and let me tell you, it was the best time of my life!
Usually when I travel to Caribbean islands I purchase the all-inclusive package ,which includes unlimited food and alcohol. My typical day would be pool/beach from 10-5 and then dinner and a show. That is literally my dream vacation. All I want to do is r e l a x on a beach with a pina colada in my hand. However, that was the opposite in St. Kitts and I loved every minute of it.
St. Kitts has so much to do and if you aren’t a student at the Vet School in town, it might be hard to discover everything they have to offer. It took Sam a few semesters to really find all the hidden gems.
Instead of beachin’ it the entire trip, my friends and I went on a catamaran cruise. If you’ve never heard of a cat cruise before, it’s basically an all day drinking adventure on a large boat. We traveled from St. Kitts to a small island called Nevis. I highly advise sunblock every half hour, unlike us, and pace yourself while drinking, again unlike us. After the cat cruise, we went to a few local bars, the Strip, where bartenders were giving out the strongest vodka gummies! It’s always a fun time day drinking with your friends until one gets a little too drunk…Christian!
We also went on two hikes while visiting the beautiful island. We hiked into a bat cave which was insanely cool but also very terrifying. It rained the night before and the entire pathway to the hike was flooded. It didn’t stop us from pushing through though. My friend Chris carried Sam and I on his back the majority of the hike. Thanks Chris!
The second hike was into a Volcano!! Yes, another terrifying yet thrilling adventure! It took us nearly 6 hours to climb the Volcano and mind you we were extremely hungover from the cat trip! But it was all worth it because of the amazing views and seeing the inside of the crater!
Besides the beach, cat cruise, bars at the strip, and hikes, my all time favorite thing to check out in St. Kitts is the split view of the Atlantic ocean and Carribean Sea. On one side of the island is the Atlantic Ocean and on the other side is the Carribean Sea. The two meet in the middle and the view is incredible!
St. Kitts, I’ll be back!
